How I started my website design business?

Coming from a developing country like Nepal to the land of opportunity USA, it has been a fascinating journey for me. I completed my graduation from Pennsylvania and after that headed to Texas looking for a purpose in life and opportunity. Doing minimum wage jobs for many years was not the solution for me, I needed to help people where they could get value from me and I would be satisfied and earn well.

Starting my website (sonyshathapa.com) design business was an exciting and transformative journey, and I’m thrilled to share how I got it off the ground. If you’re a business owner and want your website built in a professional way reach me and we can discuss further.

1. Discovering My Passion

It all began with my love for technology and design. I spent countless hours (even during my college days) tinkering with websites, creating designs for fun, and learning the ropes of web development. What started as a hobby quickly turned into a passion, and I realized I wanted to turn this into a career.

2. Building the Skills

I knew that to stand out in the competitive world of web design, I needed to sharpen my skills. I took online courses, read books, and practised by creating websites for friends and family. This hands-on experience was invaluable, helping me build a solid portfolio.

3. Setting Up the Basics

With a clear vision in mind, I set up the foundational elements of my business. I chose a business name, registered a domain, and created my own website to showcase my work. I also took care of the legal stuff—registering my business and setting up a separate bank account.

4. Developing a Portfolio

A strong portfolio is essential for attracting clients. I started by designing a few sample websites and working on projects for friends and local businesses. Each project added to my portfolio, demonstrating my skills and style.

5. Marketing and Networking

Next, I focused on getting the word out. I used social media platforms, joined relevant online communities, and attended local networking events. I also reached out to potential clients through direct emails and offered to help with small projects to build relationships.

6. Setting Up Operations

To manage my business efficiently, I invested in tools for project management, invoicing, and client communication. This helped me stay organized and deliver high-quality work on time.

7. Learning and Adapting

The web design industry is always evolving, so I made it a point to keep learning. I stayed updated on the latest trends and technologies, which allowed me to offer cutting-edge solutions to my clients.

8. Reflecting on Success

As my business grew, I took time to reflect on my achievements and challenges. Each project taught me something new, and client feedback helped me improve. Celebrating small wins kept me motivated and focused on my goals.

Starting my website design business has been a rewarding journey filled with learning and growth. If you’re passionate about design and ready to put in the work, you can turn your dreams into reality too.
